Dying to Find a Cure for Murder: A Cell Camp Benefit

Friday, October 23rd at 10:00 at Studio B

Murder kills millions each year, yet a cure for the disease has not been found. Comedy troupe Cell Camp is taking a stab at a formal benefit to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for murder.

The benefit will feature guest speakers, a murder prevention presentation, a documentary of living with someone diagnosed with murder and a performance by dance troupe Funky See Funky Do.

Right in time for Halloween, the event will take place on Friday, October 23rd from 9:45pm-11:00pm at Studio Be located at 3110 North Sheffield Ave - conveniently located off the Belmont el stop. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door.

The event will include minimal hors d'oeuvres, a raffle for prizes from local merchants and jello shots. Minimal alcohol will be provided so patrons are encouraged to bring their own. Coolers of ice, cups and tiny umbrellas will be available.

All proceeds for the event will go towards funding Cell Camp comedy and keeping Chicago laughing its bloody head off.

Cell Camp's smartly twisted style of sketch comedy stands out and creates buzz. SNL alum Garrett Morris called the group "brilliant", while Time Out Chicago dubbed Cell Camp "totally tactless" as well as one of the "best and brightest" at the 2009 Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival.

Neil Goes Hollywood

Cell Camp's own Neil Arsenty is headed to Los Angeles, California this week to film a few minor roles for the pilot/presentation of Midwest Teen Sex Show for Comedy Central.

Neil has been a part of the online video podcast for nearly the last two years and the television deal was publicly announced on EW.com back in May. If the network likes the pilot (which is filming this week), a series deal for an upcoming season could be next.

In New York, a 15-year old girl has fallen into a manhole while she was texting on her phone. Her parents are suing the city. Her name is Alexa. In response to the workmen’s apology after they helped her out of the hole, she said “They were just, like, ‘I’m sorry! I’m sorry!’”

"Like, Help!", which premiered in Cell Camp's "Social Graceless" sketch comedy revue in April, tells the tale of a teenage girl (Charlisa) who falls into a manhole. Her friend Sreena attempts to get help from a passerby, who finds it hard to understand her teen lingo. Sreena complains, “We should, like, sue the city!”

Cell Camp Selected for Shadowbox Sketch Comedy Festival!

Shadowbox producers have selected Cell Camp and 5 other troupes to participate in their first annual Sketch Comedy Festival, July 21 and 22 at their sketch comedy and rock ‘n' roll club located at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, OH.

The two-day festival will feature special guest, original Saturday Night Live cast member Garret Morris.

Tickets are $10 for Day One, $20 for Day Two, $25 Two-Day-All-Access Pass.

A New Cell Camp

The Chicago Sketchfest version of "Mall Party!" closed to a rousing ovation on Sunday night, ending another chapter in the two-year history of Cell Camp.

We debuted a new sketch in Sketchfest's "Sketchubator" last Saturday night from our new sketch revue that we are shooting to debut in the Spring, with a new director and a few new cast members, continuing in the Cell Camp spirit that TimeOut Chicago called 'tactless'!

Cell Camp has been asked to perform a scene at this year's Chicago SketchFest Kick-Off party!

Sunday, September 14 at 7:00PM, the event will be held at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont Avenue.

The Party will feature food, drinks, a live auction, sketch comedy performances from a variety of local troupes, and the viewing of a 30-minute mini-documentary of last year’s 2008 SketchFest.

Mall Party is Cell Camp's newest show that takes place entirely in a fictional mall in a fictional town of non-fictional people.
